Plant Propagation

Ambjent Malta’s Plant Propagation Centres in Ta’ Qali and Elysium, Għajn Tuffieħa serve as one of Ambjent Malta’s main facilities dedicated to the propagation and cultivation of indigenous Maltese plants. The nursery plays an important role in supporting environmental restoration, habitat conservation, afforestation projects, and ecological rehabilitation initiatives across the Maltese Islands.

The nursery team is responsible for propagating a diverse range of native trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plant species originating from Malta and the wider Mediterranean region. Many of these plants are cultivated from locally collected seeds and cuttings to ensure the preservation of native genetic diversity and ecological integrity.

Plants grown within the nursery are used for habitat restoration and landscaping interventions carried out within Ambjent Malta-managed sites, including Natura 2000 areas and other ecologically sensitive environments. Saplings and propagated stock are also stored and maintained at the Ta’ Qali facility to support ongoing and future conservation projects.

Through sustainable cultivation practices and long-term environmental management efforts, the nursery contributes towards the protection and enhancement of Malta’s natural heritage and biodiversity.
