Environmental Connectivity for Optimized Resiliency and Ecosystem Management in Natura 2000 Sites

E-Core

The E-CORE project focuses on strengthening ecological resilience and improving ecosystem management within Malta’s Natura 2000 protected areas. Through targeted conservation actions, the project aims to restore degraded habitats, enhance biodiversity, and improve environmental connectivity across sensitive ecological landscapes.

A key objective of the project is the restoration of protected valley systems and the creation of wildlife corridors that support the movement and survival of native species. These actions help reduce habitat fragmentation and edge effects, contributing to healthier and more resilient ecosystems.

The project also places importance on sustainable visitor management within protected areas. By improving ecological conditions while promoting responsible public access, E-CORE seeks to balance conservation priorities with environmental awareness and appreciation of Malta’s natural heritage.

Through habitat restoration, ecosystem rehabilitation, and long-term management measures, the project contributes towards the preservation and enhancement of Malta’s Natura 2000 network for both present and future generations.
