Buskett Woodland

Buskett Woodland is one of Malta’s most important natural and cultural sites, covering approximately 474,000 square metres of semi-natural woodland within the Natura 2000 network. Protected as a Special Area of Conservation, tree sanctuary and bird sanctuary, Buskett supports a rich variety of flora and fauna, including centuries-old Holm Oaks, carob and olive trees, migratory birds, reptiles, amphibians and other wildlife of conservation importance. The site also holds significant historical and archaeological value, featuring landmarks such as Verdala Palace, ancient cart ruts, Punic tombs and historic irrigation systems.

Ambjent Malta plays a key role in the conservation and management of Buskett, undertaking initiatives such as habitat restoration, invasive species removal, indigenous tree planting and biodiversity protection. The organisation also manages the Buskett Education Centre, which offers environmental education and awareness programmes that encourage visitors, students and families to appreciate and protect Malta’s natural heritage. Through its conservation, educational and outreach efforts, Ambjent Malta ensures that Buskett remains a thriving ecosystem, a place of recreation and wellbeing, and a valuable resource for present and future generations.
